The struts on the Quest are at the end of their lives. Rock Auto only has the individual parts that ‘d have to order separately and assemble , including removing and replacing the spring. this set-up seems like it would make my live a little easier to replace them.

I’ve had the van for 50k miles. It recently passed 100k miles.

All i’ve had to do is the lower cats, oil pan, and variable valve sole noi d . I replaced the spark plugs and some sensors chasing the sole noid.  So overall I dont think its been too bad.

I bought a set of pre-loaded struts for one of our vehicles (I can’t remember which one). They made the work a lot easier - three bolts up top, one on bottom, then done. Getting rid of the old struts is a little more problematic since they have loaded springs on them.

Everyone says it’s so much nicer to not have to deal with compressing the springs. That part didn’t seem that bad when I did mine, but maybe that’s just because I didn’t accidentally launch a spring through my skull.

Loaded stru ts are d efinitely worth it.

So overall I dont think its been too bad.

Oil pan?! And I thought cats were required to have some extended emissions warrant y coverage by fed law.

I’ve bought preloaded struts for my mazda. They are way easier to install. I would certainly spring for the higher quality as I feel the ones I bought are maybe not as nice as oem on the shock (dampening) side. I still had to to use a spring compressor to install.

yea, i’m not up on my brands. Would the ones in my link be crap?

those are Sensen. Rock Auto would have KYB but everything is seperate, the strut, mount and bellow. Its about $23 0 on Rock A uto if I reuse the spring, $ 310 if I replace the spring too

Gosh, I really don’t know. Seems like KYB is a good brand. That’s what the ones were on my mazda and honestly I felt they were not as good as OEM.

It was such a PIA to change them I’m not going to do it again until they are clunking. But basic things like the strut tower bushing was not greased which is odd. In retrospec I could have just bought the strut cartridges and actually saved money and maybe had a better outcome.

It can go really easy, or really fight you.  I’ve had both happen.  When I did struts on my CTS-V the springs were so short that I didn’t use a compressor to get them off or on, but I got a bit of a surprise taking them apart, whoops.  The second one went better.  Then when I just did my caddy Deville the springs were so tall that it was a super big pain, even with a nice wall mounted air over hydraulic spring compressor.  So it’s a dice roll. But always manageable.  I’d go for higher quality vs convenience.
